Angel’s Double Jaw Surgery Journey
Donation protected
Friends and Family,
The time has come sooner than we anticipated. It’s both exciting and terrifying at the same time! About this time a year ago, Angel’s orthodontist was preparing to fit her for braces and was taking routine X-rays. These X-rays were sent out to be read by professionals who made her orthodontist aware that due to her jaws sitting father back into her face than normal, both jaws (upper and lower) were pushing up against her airway causing her to have about 20% use of her airway instead of 100%. The jaw’s positioning also is causing irreparable damage to her teeth due to her bite being off.
This news was shocking! We had no idea what Malocclusion even was back then! But, after considering the information, a LOT of things started making sense. After reviewing the facts and situation and getting a second opinion, we decided to move forward with this process with the goal being a healthier life free of sleep apnea, teeth grinding, teeth damage, full breaths of air, etc! Angel will be having Bi-Maxillary Osteotomy, Bilateral Sagitral Split Osteotomy, and Genioplasty on August 10, 2022!
Kentucky law requires a skeletal deformity to be covered by insurance so, thankfully, most of the surgery is covered. However, some of it is not because part of it is considered cosmetic. Could you imagine moving only part of your face even though the other parts would look totally unnatural?! Insurance…. Am I right?
We are looking for help covering hospital stay, medication, and supply costs as well as loss of income. Because this is considered a pre-existing condition it is not covered by short term disability so Angel will be using 100% of her PTO but it will only cover about half of the time she is off of work.
If you would like to help us on this journey, we covet your prayers, your thoughts, your good wishes, and of course any donation you can throw our way. We know we are blessed and surrounded by thoughtful, caring, and generous people and we thank you in advance for your kindness.
God Bless. ❤️
