Petersburg Police Officer Leslie DeLuca has served as an officer for over 26 years in both Pennsylvania and Virginia. So far she has dedicated over half of her life protecting and serving the community.
Weeks after celebrating her 50th birthday, Leslie was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer. This has meant that while patrolling the streets of Petersburg during COVID-19 pandemic, Leslie has had to focus on her own safety more than ever. After several X-rays, scans, biopsies and doctor's appointments, she then found out that her cancer is likely Stage 4 as it appears to have moved to her bones.
Leslie lives with her 2 rescue dogs, Apache and Chance, both of which have needed multiple surgeries to maintain their quality of life. The unanticipated expenses she has had for those surgeries on top of what she is now facing have been both emotionally and financially draining.
She is currently still serving her community and attempting to stay in her home, living with her dogs, however, the medical bills are adding up quickly. Co-payments, deductibles on top of living expenses are making a terrible situation even more stressful. Many tests require up front payment for the amount not covered by insurance. Some tests have each required several hundred dollars out of pocket upfront payments and more tests are needed to find out the full extent of her illness.
Leslie came into my life when I badly needed a friend. In the years since, I have learned she is the most loyal person you will ever meet. I trust that she will always have my back. She has never known a stranger and gives that same loyalty to everyone around her. In her time of need, my wife and I want to have Leslie's back and do everything we can to help. We are asking our friends and family to please help us support Leslie.
