Angie & Ryan Schill
"Deep breath...That is what I did before the first phone calls I made to family and friends, informing them of Angie's skiing accident. The first words I said in those first few phone calls were "I'm just going to say it" and that is what I will do here. Angie had a skiing accident on Saturday, December 13th at approximately 1:30pm Angie lost control while skiing down a hill and went back first into a large pole. Ski medics were on scene soon after the accident and Angie was eventually airlifted by helicopter to St Anthony Hospital in Lakewood, CO. She was brought to the E.R. and shortly after had surgery on her back. When Ang impacted the pole, she broke her T-8 vertebrae (mid back)."
That was the start of Ryan Schill's first CaringBridge post 5 months ago. To read the full story, please visit Angie's CaringBridge: www.caringbridge.org/visit/angieschill.
Today, we are excited to share that in addition to hosting a benefit event on June 12, we have also set up this gofundme account for anyone who is not able to attend the event but would like to support Angie and Ryan.
Most of you probably aren't aware that Angie's stay at Craig Hospital was not covered by insurance. Ryan, along with their families, made the decision early on to pursue rehab at Craig because of their reputation and high level of care they are known to give for Spinal Cord Injuries (SCI). They typically treat approximately 300 SCI cases per year, compared to the alternative rehab option in Minneapolis (that would have been covered) that handles approximately 30 cases per year. When faced with a decision like this, you make the best decision you can for your loved one, despite the financial hardship it might present. Based on how far Angie has come in just four short months, they are confident this was the right decision. It is still a long path to recovery, as we all know and have heard, so let’s show the Schills that we are here to support them for the long run!
