Anguilla Hurricane Relief Fund

Why are we raising money?
We are raising money for those affected by Hurricane Irma on the beautiful island of Anguilla.
Anguilla is a small island in the Caribbean with a population of around 15,000. The island is completely flat and only 16 miles long. Hurricane Irma was 400 miles across. Irma has caused near complete destruction, tearing down schools, homes, most of the island’s infrastructure, and severely damaging their only hospital.
Anguilla’s #1 industry is tourism; it is how most people on the island are employed. So, Hurricane Irma hitting Anguilla right before the holiday season, wreaking havoc on the major hotels, will inhibit the main source of income for the majority of locals for the entire year. Not only will the people of Anguilla be homeless, but their livelihood is in jeopardy as hotels will struggle to rebuild.
Who Are We?
We are a small group of American and British individuals that were brought together on the island of Anguilla. From a very young age, we have spent time on the beautiful Anguilla with our friends and families. We have grown up there, spending every holiday and life milestone with the wonderful people of Anguilla, who we love and we feel are our extended family. We look forward to seeing our Anguilla family on the island every year. Anguilla is our home, and watching the catastrophic devastation it has suffered from Hurricane Irma is heartbreaking.
How can you help us?
Join us in helping raise money to rebuild this incredible community, so the extraordinary people of Anguilla can rebuild their homes, their places of work, and their lives. The people of Anguilla have something in common: their incredible dignity. We feel compelled to support them. Help us support the wonderful people during this long ordeal they now face.
This is our chance to give back to an island that has given us so much, and we need your help. Other countries can afford billions of dollars in government assistance. Anguilla has us. Please donate and help us show we have their backs.
Where will the funds go?
Mac Pemberton, an Anguillan and a man of unparalleled character, is our point person in Anguilla. He is the best person to ensure that the funds will go directly to those who need it. We spoke to him this morning (September 6th), after the hurricane passed, and while the most important thing is that he and his family are safe, their beautiful island is in shambles. Mac has been dubbed the “unofficial Major” of Anguilla. He is a great man and featured heavily in the following book: A Trip to the Beach: Living on Island Time in the Caribbean by Melinda and Robert Blanchard. Unlike many foundations, money raised will go directly to the people in need.
September 18th Update:
Auberge Resorts has announced they will soon be setting up a fund for Malliouhauna employees.
We will continue to raise as much money as we can to support the hotel employees and appreciate all the donor support. Anguilla is today facing Hurricane Maria.
This hurricane season has been relentless on our beautiful island.
September 16th Update:
Unlike many other hotels, the Malliouhana has not set up a direct employee Hurricane Disaster Relief Fund. Because of this, we plan to distribute the money to the staff along with other people in need who are not currently getting aide. We are in the process of getting the employee list from the Malliouhana Management team, who will help us keep all of you up to date on the situation in Anguilla. We will share photos of the hotel in our next update when we receive them. Please see our update for full information on how we are setting up the distribution of funds. Thank you for all your help, donors!
