Animal Welfare Projects Sharm El Sheikh
Donation protected
I am raising money for the welfare of the street animals in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt…
After spending a lot of time there and wondering how to start my project after spending 2023 rescuing and neutering the street cats around me, I had the luck of meeting some wonderful residents who already have projects running so I decided to help 2 very special projects ran by amazing people who are now my friends - 1 for cats and 1 for dogs.
I have personally seen the work they are doing. It's not easy to help animals in a country so different from our own, with different systems and almost no rules on the treatment of animals (which they are trying to change) I have seen the success's, the loss's, happiness, sadness, advances and set backs these dedicated people experience.
The donations you make will provide -
Food & water for street animals living around the towns and surrounding desert - Egypt is a very hot, baron country and many animals are suffering due to lack of these
Vaccinations - diseases are still spreading throughout the street population of which the animals suffer terribly
Neutering - preventing more babies to be born into this hard life and it also improves the life of the females and stops fighting injuries between the males
Veterinary care - for road accidents, poisoning, human abuse, malnutrition, abandoned kittens and puppies, injuries and disease all of which happen almost daily
Shelter - some animals after their veterinary care, or because they are too young cannot go back onto the streets. Some vets offer clinic stays however this is costly and finding stays isn't easy with most residents already housing as many street animals as they can manage
Toys - the sheltered street animals have never had toys, watching them play for the first time is just wonderful!
So let me introduce you to the projects we will be supporting...
OUR LIFE WITH CATS - Joanne & Tamer
2 of the most selfless, caring people I have ever met. They share their home with 30 rescued cats all of which they have treated for their conditions and given a loving home. They also have an apartment next door which they have a further 50 cats - also all of which were injured and received care or need ongoing care that cannot go back onto the streets. They both have jobs to fund their cat sanctuary but it's not enough and their day starts from 5am until late feeding, giving medications, cleaning and fussing their lucky rescues. Each week they are contacted for more help and even have started to have kittens left on their door step...
You donations will help them to continue to provide a comfortable sanctuary for the injured street cats including food, medical care, neutering, young kitten care, supplies for the housing and toys.
TNR - TRAP, NEUTER, RELEASE for dogs - Sarah Woodford and team of volunteers
The most hardworking and dedicated people - daily, the team monitor and feed the street dogs at feeding stations and run TNR projects whilst building good relationships with local hotels, business owners and vet centres to educate and help.
They have successfully caught and neutered 100 dogs of an estimated 450 dogs in the Nabq area of Sharm El Sheikh. The difference has been amazing - from unruly, hungry, breeding fuelled dogs running around causing some problems to dogs that are now friendly, fed and happy with a zero population growth.
The volunteers are working pack by pack, and using a tagging system to mark the packs already done and are working closely with an amazing local vet who is offering incredible support.
Sometimes it's takes weeks/months of patience, food and trust building for the volunteers to get close to some of the dogs, other times a professional dog catcher is needed using a sedative dart which is an extra charge.
Your donations will help them to fund catching, neutering, tagging, vaccinating and any medical care needed for injuries and disease found once caught as well as the food and water station supplies.
I really hope you feel the amazing work being done here and get behind us - everyone involved is personally funding but we just need more...we understand that times aren't easy as well, any donation no matter how small makes a difference!
The money raised already has been split between these 2 projects and I will be updating this page with the stories and photos of the animals YOU HAVE HELPED!
Thank you so much from the street animals of Sharm x
