Providing Therapy for a bereaved child
Donation protected
Annie is an Animal Assisted Play Therapy®️ (AAPT) dog.
.
.
We have been asked to provide a therapeutic service for a child who has experienced familial bereavement. Funds are being sought here are because council funding cuts means that funding is not available to them through the usual avenues.
.
.
I am Annie’s owner and am a qualified Play Therapist already trained to Masters level, with the British Association of Play Therapists (BAPT). I work with children who have experienced a challenging life or who have behavioural difficulties, for any reason.
.
.
Annie is not intended to be a petting dog. She is my co-therapist who plays actively with the clients, which she is well suited for. We have had additional extensive training in order to do this complex work.
.
.
The AAPT training focuses on animal & client welfare, the enjoyment of each, the skills of both dog and therapist and, of course, how best to use the therapy to address the mental and/or emotional needs of the client. Also, extensive understanding of dog behaviour and communication is crucial for the safety and effectiveness of this therapeutic model.
