Animals Injured & Displaced by Train Accident
Donation protected
As most of you are aware by now, a devastating ecological disaster occurred in East Palestine Ohio. A train derailed with several cars of an incredibly toxic chemical -vinyl chloride. Anyone living within a miles radius was forcibly evacuated. There was no warning. Before hand, the town was told to shelter in place. There was no time to properly evacute or move animals. Arrest and criminal charges were threatened to those who would have chosen to stay. My friend Taylor was FORCED to leave behind all of his outdoor animals including 18 foxes, 2 coyotes, and wolf dogs.
If you are lucky enough to know Taylor, you KNOW without a shadow of a doubt these animals are his life. So many rescues, he has saved countless animals of all species from neglect and the brink of death. He is well known in the animal community for his wealth of knowledge, experience, and commitment. He would go to war quite literally to save any animal. All of this is effecting him terribly. Soulcrushing to walk away from a life that depends on you for its existence. A decision he shouldn't have had to make.
Taylor did manage to regain access for a very brief amount of time to secure a few animals in his home before being removed from the premises by police escort. However we know now that even those inside are not safe as this chemical settles in low lying areas. That of course includes basements.
His animals who are stuck outside have hurt themselves from fright of the sirens and smells. One of his beloved fox broke his leg trying to flee his enclosure. This break alone is looking to be thousands in vet bills to correct. And his treatment is being delayed, which is critical. Let alone blood work and testing to see what damage inhaling the toxic fumes in the evacuation zone have caused.
From last update his foxes outside are swollen and very obviously in respiratory distress, noted in the banner of this gofund me you can see weeping eyes and facial swelling. There is no telling how they will be effected long term. Or the water quality, air....everything. It is too early to gauge the ramifications of this tragedy. With that being said, what we can do as a community is help these animals get the vet care they need, help displacement costs and save as many as we can. Pennies help save lives! Please help get these babies treated, you can make a difference. No matter how big or small!
