Anishinaabe Elder Serving Houseless Community
Donation protected
Grandma Lisa is an Anishinaabe Elder from Duluth who, every day in rain, blistering heat, or snow, is out caring for the homeless and supporting families of Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women—with no pay. She and her 27-year-old daughter, Sage, joined the Treaty People Walk in June 2022—an Anishinaabe-led prayer walk for water along Enbridge's Line 3, which violates Anishinaabe Treaty Rights—all out of pocket. Grandma Lisa and Sage had a healing journey in June, recovering from abuse and reconnecting with Anishinaabe culture. Now Grandma Lisa and Sage are continuing their healing journey and prayer walks for the water, all while they deliver essential supplies to the homeless. They need to recuperate some of the costs from the trip and continue serving Native communities suffering not just from the COVID-19 pandemic but from epidemics of addiction, generational trauma, Treaty violations, and racial violence. Please support their work!
