Anja Dangelmaier’s Support and Recovery Fund
Donation protected
My name is Cecilia Briseno and I am a lifelong friend of Suzanne…and Brian, since he joined the picture many years ago. As many of you know, Anja was involved in a very serious chemical spill accident on Friday night in Effingham, IL on her way to a swim meet against Ohio State. Yep, our swammer decided after a few weeks out of the water, that she really missed it and joined the Mizzou Club Swim Team.
Anja and 3 teammates were behind a tanker truck on Hwy 40 just east of Effingham, when the tanker lost control and over turned. The tanker was filled with anhydrous ammonia overturned spilling the poison contents on the road. Anja stopped her car and the 4 swimmers bailed and ran away as the chemical plume covered them. Anja and two of her teammates were airlifted to different hospitals, while one went by ambulance. All have similar chemical burn symptoms in varying degrees - lungs, eyes, and various body parts.
The next 24-48 hours will likely predict her future course of treatment. Hard to say how long the recovery will be, but it’s certain to be awhile.
Your thoughts and prayers are appreciated as this will be a long road for Anja and the Dangelmaier family. If you are able to also make a donation, it would also be greatly appreciated. There will be many expenses, including time away from work, flights back and forth, hotels, rental cars, and food along with the even greater expenses of medical bills and post hospital care. Anything we can do to help relieve some financial stress for Suzanne and Brian will be a huge blessing but most of all, we appreciate your prayers and encouragement during this difficult time. God bless you!
