Anjali N's Guillain Barre Syndrome Recovery Fund

My mother was visiting us from India. She was here to enjoy the beautiful Boston (USA) summer with her 4 year old grand-daughter. Little did we know that soon she would be diagnosed with a rare and serious autoimmune disorder called Guillian Barre Syndrome(GBS). GBS attacks the nervous system, causing muscle weakness, numbness, and paralysis.

Today, I reach out to you with a heavy heart, seeking your support in our fundraising campaign to help my mother on her journey to recovery. I request you to please read her story with an open mind and compassionate heart.

On the morning of June 20th, she struggled to balance her own head and experienced tingling in her fingers, therefore we took her to the emergency room at the local hospital. Within hours, she needed a ventilator to breathe. Unfortunately, my mother's condition progressed very fast, leaving her with only the ability to move her eyes and feet and nothing else in her body. It is extremely painful to see her locked up in her own body. She is completely conscious and can sense the pain and discomfort. She has undergone a tracheostomy, relying on tubes for breathing and nourishment. Presently, she is receiving critical care in the neuro ICU, but her recovery is projected to take several months.

My mother is a fighter, and she's determined to beat this illness. However, she needs our help to make that a reality.

Throughout her life, she has been a pillar of strength, dedicating herself to providing healthcare services and helping others in a clinical setting. Now, it is our turn to come together and extend a helping hand during her time of need.

Your contribution, no matter how small, will make a difference. It will not only help alleviate the financial burden on the family but also give the much-needed peace of mind to the family to focus on her recovery.

I am starting this GoFundMe campaign to help cover any unforeseen expenses that are piling up with each passing day during her hospital stay and recovery. The funds raised will be used for:

1. Medical expenses as her limited insurance doesn’t cover all the bills

2. Rehabilitation services: GBS causes severe muscle weakness and paralysis. To aid her recovery, specialized rehabilitation services are essential.

3. Air Transportation back to India: Being away from her home country has added an additional layer of complexity to my mother's situation. We aim to take her back to familiar surroundings and the care of her loved ones. Your contribution will assist in arranging the necessary air ambulance transportation.

4. Additional Recovery Expenses: Throughout the recovery process, unexpected expenses may arise. By contributing to our campaign, you will help us provide the resources needed to support her recovery.
