Help Save Raven!

Raven is a three year old black cat who has brought nothing but joy to our family. He is an Emotional Support Animal to a queer, autistic person who is often home alone while their partner travels for work.

Raven suddenly was taken to an emergency vet when he began struggling to breathe. He underwent an emergency surgery to drain fluid that was found flooding his chest, compressing his lungs. He was kept for 24 hours for observation. During this time, we were able to raise the $2700 that we were being charged for this treatment.

Now Raven has returned home. They drained about 220ml from his chest, which the vet stressed is a VERY significant amount. For the most part his recovery is well. His breathing is regulated, but he isn't eating. We are resorting to force feeding him as we wait for a newly prescribed appetite stimulant to get him eating on his own. If this fails, we will need to take him in again for further care.

The update on Raven's condition is that he was diagnosed with idiopathic chylothorax disease, which essentially means they cannot determine what caused his chest to flood. Our next course of action is to get him a CT scan to be sure the vets didn't miss anything, then have a specialist perform an invasive surgery to close off the duct in his chest that the liquid is coming from. This should hopefully prevent the flooding from happening again. The vet said this fluid can cause scar tissue in his chest that can prevent him from being able to breathe even is the fluid gets drained again, so we absolutely need to handle this right away.

We will be updating the goal of our gofundme as we find out the costs of this surgery and the recovery. We've already had to pay for two extra prescriptions since he's returned home.
