Anna Pineda's Dream Vacation with Son
Donation protected
Anna is a beloved staff member at WestPoint Financial Group. In the Wacker and Downers Grove offices, she is most known for her positive attitude, desire to be helpful and always greeting people with a warm smile. For the past two years, Anna has been battling Stage 4 colon cancer.
At just 32 years old, Anna has tackled this journey with grace and optimism. However, she has recently been given the news that her cancer is no longer operable and continues to spread.
Anna has decided to live life to the fullest and focuses on making memories with her 11-year-old son, Alex. One way WPFG would like to support Anna is by raising funds toward a vacation of a lifetime for Anna and Alex.
Anna's Cancer Journey
In July 2019, Anna started to feel very ill. Constant pain in her abdomen was interfering with her daily tasks. When she finally went to the doctor, it was revealed that she had a mass the size of a fist in her colon. She was told she had Stage 3 colon cancer.
Anna's treatments started on November 6, 2019 and continue for five grueling months. She received treatment every other week and through Anna's positive spirit and the support of her family and friends, the treatments go well.
In April 2020, Anna finally hears the words she has been waiting for, "Anna, you are now cancer-free!"
Unfortunately, Anna's cancer journey does not end there.
In December 2020, Anna's doctor suspects that something is amiss. After CAT scans, PET scans and a colonoscopy, Anna's team of oncologists, pathologists and surgeons determine that her cancer is back. Surgery is needed immediately to prevent any more spread; six new tumors were removed during surgery.
After surgery, Anna started experiencing debilitating pain. Her pain medication stopped working and she needed help to do things like roll out of bed and walk. A CAT scan in February revealed that the cancer had yet again spread. This time, surgery wold not be an option.
"Six months to live."
Anna is currently seeking other opinions but additional oncologists are telling her the same thing, only worse: that she has about 6 months to live.
How does Anna tell her son this devastating news? How does she tell her family? Her friends? Her 11-year-old son Alex is asking questions like, "Who is going to take care of me?"
Anna is still on treatments and considered "open." She will continue with stronger treatments through the end of this year, with the goal of shrinking her cancer. She currently lives life to the fullest and spends as much time with Alex as possible.
To that end, Anna has decided to take Alex to Florida this summer. She wants to give him as many memories as she possibly can. WPFG would like to support Anna in this goal by raising funds toward the trip.
Anna's Gratitude to WPFG
"I want to take this time to thank WestPoint for all the support and love during this journey. Thank you to all the amazing advisors and staff for your understanding and patience."
