Annie Lambert Fights Breast Cancer

Donation protected
This is a photo of Annie when she was healthy. She was a hiking enthusiast and spent many hours in the San Gabriel Mountains. Her favorite trail was the Mount Wilson Trail in Sierra Madre. She loved this little town nestled against the foothills and always hoped to move there. She belonged to the Sierra Club for many years and also worked out at the gym for most of her life. She was always careful with her health, stayed fit and hoped to live a good long time. One of her big goals in life was to grow old with her siblings – hoping some day they could all live together. She also looked forward to retiring so she could do more of the things she loved.

Annie has many friends, most she has known for a very long time; friends she loves and that care deeply for her. She is also a pet person, particularly fond of little creatures. Her friends, her pets and the mountains, those are the things that define Annie.  She is exceptionally bright and emotionally sensitive. She is the sort that takes the slightest wrong seriously and is honest to a fault. She is also sober and responsible. She also attends St. Luke’s Episcopal church in Monrovia. She is the type of person you can genuinely trust. Annie is a good person that is now facing a terrible illness.

In October of 2015 she noticed an odd lump above her right breast. In February of 2016 she was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was the worst possible news and the worst of bad news. She has triple-negative breast cancer, a form that is aggressive and also difficult to treat. It was also poorly differentiated and had already metastasized. Since that diagnosis, just over a year ago, her health has declined sharply. The cancer has spread, she is in constant pain, has trouble sleeping, sweats profusely and struggles to eat. Annie can no longer hike, which was devastating to her, and now has trouble even going for a short walk. She no longer drives. She has also had to stop working. She is even thinking of giving up her pets. This is a picture of Annie now.

Annie was not a candidate for chemotherapy or surgery, but there is hope. In addition to a strict diet and supplements, she has pursued alternative therapies with some success. She is working with a very good doctor that is helping her deal with the many challenges of this illness and is starting her on two new treatments. She remains determined to fight and believes she can beat this. She is also much loved and supported: friends and family are cooking for her, doing errands, helping with daily care, driving her to appointments, helping her to cope, and just being there for her.

However, her health expenses have been substantial, as much as $100 per day, and most of it is not covered by insurance. Since she is no longer able to work she has had to spend her retirement savings for her monthly expenses as well as her healthcare. Having planned a modest retirement, Annie was not prepared for the financial aspect of this crisis. Annie needs financial help too! The amount requested in this campaign should help cover her treatment for the year plus some of her living expenses. Won’t you please consider helping her fight this illness! In addition to donations through GoFundMe, she is also seeking help with chores and errands, would love to hear from people, and welcomes your prayers.
