Annie / Vanniety Kills Recovery Fund

Mama, Vanniety Kills, a sister, a dear friend, a daughter, a caretaker, a community creator, a doctor, Ladies of the Underground, OverEasy, Cadence, Deep Sugar,  The House that U Built… or just as “Annie”… however you've come to know her, she has brought light to your life in some way.  And she has fought hard to be able to do that.  As most of you know, Annie suffered a traumatic brain injury (“TBI”) several years ago and her road to recovery has been filled with challenges, trial and error, setbacks, and over the last year – finally – some success.  Annie gained momentum at work caring for patients at Walter Reed, DJing again, and organizing the various community events she’s pioneered, events which have brought together thousands of music lovers looking for safe spaces to dance, feel free, and celebrate life. In October, shortly after DJing one such event, she suffered another TBI. 

This most recent injury has set her back with TBI symptoms and struggles worse than her first. Just as her recovery finally began to build momentum, now she is no longer able to work, cannot leave the house except for doctor visits, treatments, short, accompanied walks, and has to undergo exhausting, extensive rehabilitation. As a dance and music lover she's unable to listen to music like she used to, or do anything too physically or mentally stimulating, and it’s uncertain how long it will take her to regain all the ground she’s lost.  Annie suffered this setback while sharing her gifts and her light with her community – while giving others a space to feel safe and empowered.  Now, it’s time for her community to show her how much we love, appreciate and believe in her by making her feel safe and empowered in return.  Any amount you can donate will go directly to Annie to help offset her medical and living expenses while she is unable to work – medical bills, therapy costs, groceries, transportation, medications.  Let’s help Annie stay focused on recovery while we take care of the rest.
