Anni's Medical Expenses
Donation protected
I am creating this to raise money for Chris and Paige (Anni’s parents) to help with medical bills, travel expenses, and anything else that might arise.
On Monday, June 27th, my seven-year-old niece, Annistyn Weaver, went to have what we thought was a routine eye examination, but after dilation, inflammation on bilateral optic discs and some bleeding were found. From there, an MRI and lumbar puncture was recommended. That evening her MRI revealed a mass in her brain near her pituitary gland and hypothalamus called a craniopharyngioma. These tumors are rare and usually benign, but due to this mass, the fluid in Anni’s brain called CSF (cerebrospinal fluid) cannot drain properly, causing headaches and vision changes. She was sent via ambulance to Texas Children’s Hospital, where she underwent many blood tests, scans, and ultrasounds to gather more information and create a surgical plan.
On the evening of Wednesday, June 29th, Anni was rushed to surgery to place an EVD (external ventricle drain) to continuously drain some CSF because Anni was having episodes of mental changes. These episodes consisted of confusion, screaming, complaints of pain, and staring off. Unfortunately, with this type of mass and the effects it is causing, surgery is the only option. Anni is scheduled to have surgery on Wednesday, July 6th, to partially remove the tumor. After the surgery, Anni will have to have radiation for six weeks Monday through Friday.
Anni is tolerating this as best as expected for a 7-year-old. She thinks she is in prison and ready to return home with her siblings and dogs.
We appreciate any contribution. If you are unable to contribute, that is understandable, but can you please share so we can reach more people and raise awareness about this rare tumor!
