Annual run in aid of mental health and paraathlete
Donation protected
We at Rundermot are organising our annual charity run again this year. The event will start at Castledermot GAA on Sunday 21st January at 11am. Registration from 10am.
This year we have chosen to fundraise for the mental health facility at Abbeyview Castledermot and local para-athlete Aaron Shorten.
January can be a tough month for those suffering with mental health and we pride ourselves in making this event an opportunity for people to meet, socialise and chat in a non competitive environment for a 5k or 10k run, walk or jog. Staying active is a great way to help people’s mental health and we are delighted to be using this event again this year to support the fantastic facility at Abbeyview. Funds raised in the past has developed a beautiful outdoor garden space and provided trips and outings for users of the facility that would not otherwise have been possible.
Our second chosen beneficiary this year is local para athlete Aaron Shorten. Aaron is hoping to qualify for the paralympics later this year. Aaron is 20 years old and has represented Ireland already in the world games. He has 10 all Ireland medals, 9 for 800 metres and 1 for 1500 metres which he achieved in his teenage years. Aaron is a member of St. Laurence O Tooles Athletic Club in Carlow. Aaron is trained by his father Ken Shorten. The funds raised for Aaron will go towards his expenses of qualifying as he achieves his dream. We are immensely proud to have a local athlete compete at this level.
We would love to see as many people as possible on the day but if you can’t make it or just wish to donate to these two great causes you can do so by clicking on the donate button. We would also love you to share our page using the share option which is another great way to show your support. Thank you.
