Join us in a heartfelt mission of compassion and support. Meet Anson Burkholder, a young man of just 23 years, a devoted horse and buggy Mennonite, whose life was tragically cut short. Anson's story is one of love, family, and unwavering community spirit.
Anson was on the cusp of his 24th birthday, celebrating a beautiful new chapter in his life. Less than a year ago, he embarked on the journey of marriage with his beloved wife, Elaine. Just two months ago, they welcomed their precious son, Weston, into the world. Together, they were building a dream, a new home that was nearly complete, and a dairy farm that had begun to flourish since the barn raising early in the year.
Anson's spirit was one of boundless joy and kindness. He had a unique ability to see the goodness in everyone and was always ready to lend a helping hand. Tragically, while he was farm-sitting for his parents, riding his bicycle between their farm and his own, his life was cruelly taken by a heartless hit-and-run driver. The impact sent his body soaring some 90 feet into a cornfield, leaving him for dead.
As I returned from UN meetings in New York, passing by Anson's house, I couldn't help but wonder why construction had come to a halt. Moments later, the heartbreaking news reached me. My initial anger and sadness gave way to a profound realization in the days leading up to Anson's viewing and funeral, attended by a thousand-strong community from across the country. Nothing could bring him back; he had found his eternal rest in the House of the Lord.
But, amidst our grief, something incredible happened. The Berks County District Attorney and their dedicated team identified the driver responsible and announced charges. Anson's community, in their unwavering faith, turned their prayers towards this perpetrator.
Now, we come to you with a heartfelt request: please, join us in supporting this crucial fundraiser. We aim to provide Elaine and her newborn son with the means to move forward in life without the burden of financial worries. She needs to cover his funeral expenses. She will not return to the house they were building, and the family business will find new hands to carry it forward.
Let us rally around Elaine and Weston, showing them the power of love, community, and compassion. Your donation will ensure that their future is free from financial hardship, allowing Elaine to provide for her family and cherish the memory of her beloved Anson.
Donate now and help us turn tragedy into a testament of love and unity. Together, we can make a difference in their lives, providing them the strength and support they need during this difficult journey.
