Answers for Jovontay Williams

Hello my name is Christa Williams, on

June 13th, 2022 @9:56am and my son Jovontay Williams died while in custody of Charlotte Police Department. We believe that he died after being taken to the hospital for a “medical problem” that was stated by CMPD. 

Jovontay has never had any medical problems . A true native of Charlotte, NC. Graduating from Redan High School, Lithonia, GA in 2008 recognized by Dekalb County for First Team All-County Honoree. He furthered his football career at Johnson C. Smith University in his home town of Charlotte, NC . He was honored as an All Defensive Player of the Year for 2 consecutive years for Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA). Ranked #2 in the Country by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Jovontay was one of the Top Prospects of the 2015 National Football League (NFL). 

My son was an educated man of integrity, good father, loyal to family and friends, a great person, and he would light up a room with his wit and smile. Jovontay never met a stranger, those who knew him would agree.  

We are asking for donations to help for Jovontay’s legal fees. 

I have no information about my sons death. They haven’t told us ANYTHING! My son is currently being held by North Carolina Bureau of Investigations and we are waiting for his body to be returned to me. I as his Mother has not seen his body as of June 18, 2022.
