Hi everyone,
For those that don’t know, our Dad Anthony Costa was diagnosed with a rare cancer back in August 2022. The type of tumor is called a Spindle cell Rhabdomyosarcoma and it’s located on his lower leg, which is interconnected with his fibula bone. This type of tumor can be very dangerous but luckily it was caught early and the doctors are confident that they can get it removed with the surgery. The original two options were either a very extensive surgery or amputation of the leg, but they found a 3rd option which was through light therapy at a local treatment center. After about 6 months of this treatment, my dad has gotten significantly healthier and lost around 30 lbs. Unfortunately the tumor did not shrink, so it is now time to try the surgery. His initial surgery was scheduled for 3/1/23 and went very smoothly. What was supposed to take 6-10 hours, only took 3. After a few days of recovery, he will then have to go back to Utah for an additional plastic surgery where they will graft skin onto the area. He will need to keep all pressure off the leg for 6 weeks and if all goes well, he will be able to walk again in roughly 8-16 weeks with physical therapy assistance and an ankle brace that he’ll be wearing for the rest of his life.
As you can imagine, it’s been a trying few months and so we thought it would be good to help raise some money for Alisa & Anthony (mom & dad) as the costs have been high and he will have to miss some extra work in the recovery process.
Anything helps, but please don’t feel obligated. Keep him and our family in your prayers!
Sincerely,
The Costa Children
