Anthony's Recovery Fund Part 2

Donation protected

We are reactivating a fundraising campaign for 10-year-old Anthony Manzanares and his mother Keira, our beloved former nanny. Below please find an update since our last GoFundMe effort for Anthony four years ago when he was initially diagnosed with leukemia.

For those of you who don't know Anthony's story, he has Down Syndrome and was diagnosed with leukemia in 2016. Keira is a single mother who has worked multiple bookkeeping jobs to make ends meet and provide for their life that has had many, many hurdles.

Since his recovery from the onset of the disease, Anthony has been enjoying a new life made possible through intensive medical treatments, prayers, a loving community, and help from all of you. He was going to school, learning new words, dancing, loving music, laughing, doing all the things that growing and thriving children do.

This past March, Anthony's leukemia returned and unfortunately, more formidable than the first time around. He and Keira have been in the hospital every day since March 31st and have undergone a terrifying rollercoaster of events. At one point during a long stay in ICU, the doctors told Keira to say goodbye to Anthony, but, miraculously, he defied the odds.

Currently, Anthony is in the hospital in Tampa awaiting a cell transplant but he is running high fevers and suffering from chronic diarrhea so he needs to heal first. Please see Keira's text message below that indicates they will be in the hospital for many more days to come.

"I’m sorry I haven’t updated you but things are always changing and thank God we’re not in intensive care anymore but things are still not easy and I hate giving NOT good updates. So he was supposed to have a cell transplant on July 20th in Tampa, which is kind of like a bone marrow transplant but he doesn’t need a donor because they take the good cells from his body and it’s supposed to be lighter than other chemos. But he’s still having high fevers like 3 times a day that has been going on for over two months and diarrhea like 10 times a day and they thought it’s was a fungal infection in his liver but now they’re not sure. They will not do the cell transplant until everything is healed. So we have to stay in the hospital."

COVID rules are keeping them very isolated so she cannot have visitors or relief support of any kind.

She has no source of income right now and has been out of work since March 2020. Anthony has medical insurance, but this campaign will help offset their living expenses.

Please donate whatever you can to help this family in dire need.

As always, Ethan and I are grateful for your love and support.
