Many of know our dad, Tony Sofie, married to Deb for 42 years, father toTim, Connie, Mel, Kris and Katie, grandfather to 13 grandchildren and great grandfather to 3 great grandchildren. He is always the first one to help anyone who needs it. He is the rock in our family. He is the first call any of us make when we need help and he’s always there!
He was recently diagnosed with urethra carcinoma high-grade cancer. This is a cancer that presented itself in his ureter, the tube going from his bladder to his kidney.
He’s already gone through two surgeries for biopsies and his next surgery is on June 25. During the surgery they are removing the cancerous part of his ureter and hopefully can reattach the ureter to his kidney. If they find that they have to remove too much of the ureter and could not reattach it to the kidney, they will also have to remove his kidney. We are hoping that his kidney can be saved as this could add further difficulties with his diabetes. The doctors are unaware of how far this cancer has spread yet. They will know after this surgery, if it has broken through the ureter wall. At this time we do not know what further treatments are needed.
Dad works a seasonal job doing road construction and with his next surgery he will be out of work for 6 to 8 weeks. With his job, he has to work so many hours during the summer to be able to have his health insurance coverage carry him and Mom through the winter. Also with his job, because it seasonal, there is no vacation or sick days available for him to use while recuperating.
Any prayers and donations are greatly appreciated and will help ease all of us through this difficult time.
Thank you all for your love and support.
