SaveMoneySaveLife 2nd Annual Shoe Drive
Donation protected
In Fall 2018, the story of a “bait truck” full of shoes, left ‘abandoned’ in Englewood went viral. The “bait truck” was an unjust tactic set to lure Chicagoans into arrest. In support of the Englewood community, SaveMoneySaveLife Foundation (SMSL) and partners, launched a shoe drive! With support from Shaun King and Anwar Hadid, an Amazon Wishlist was created and shared. Over the course of the week, hundreds of volunteers mobilized around the clock to manage the short timeline and mass donations for the shoe drive. The collected shoes were distributed at a shoe give-away event dubbed — “The Anti-Bait Truck” For more info on that event, please check out this article from Teen Vogue.
This year, SaveMoneySaveLife is excited to announce, Founder, Vic Mensa is partnering with professional football linebacker, Nick Kwiatkoski to launch The Second Annual Shoe Drive and shoe give-away event(s)! Donations will be accepted via an Amazon Wishlist and GoFundMe.
Finally, SMSL will be gifting the shoes through a series of Giving Events. Nick and Vic have chosen to partner with underserved schools in marginalized neighborhoods and organizations that specifically work with youth affected by homelessness and gun violence.
