ABOUT US
Anti-Poverty Network QLD is an alliance of people against poverty, including workers, students, job-seekers, aged and disability pensioners, as well as people who’ve been or are affected by poverty.
We believe poverty is not the fault of the individual, but the fault of the system. We’re constantly attacked by the government’s neoliberal agenda for being on welfare, for not having enough money, and for being in poverty. Since 2017, we’ve been standing up together as people in poverty, for people in poverty, and fighting back wherever possible for the rights and dignity we deserve.
WHY WE'RE RAISING MONEY
We're holding the second annual People Against Poverty conference in Queensland in early 2025, that will bring together grassroots organisations from across the continent who are coming together to collectively organise and strategise to end poverty in so-called Australia.
Last year the Antipoverty Network-SA held their annual conference that drew people, communities and organisations from around the continent to come together as a collective to talk about the power of organising as a grassroots antipoverty movement.
This year we're seeking donations to help us cover costs for holding the event in Magandjin/Brisbane. Funds raised will be used for:
- Feeding attendees
- Covering inter/intrastate transport costs for attendees who need support
- Paying for supports for people who are attending
- A street kitchen feeding Musgrave Park
- Solidarity tickets
- Welcome to country
- Interpretors
- Workshops and materials
- Paying speakers
- If we exceed the target, funds will be spent on; JFP Magandjin, Treaty Before Sports and Musgrave Park street kitchens.
This fundraiser has been set up by Jayden on behalf of Antipoverty Network QLD. If you're interested in attending the event you can register to attend here: https://events.humanitix.com/antipoverty-conference-2024
