Anti-Predator Lights for Maasai Bomas

Hi all!
As you know, I’ve been boots on the ground in Kenya for many years trying my hand at conservation efforts.
Throughout my years I’ve met some wonderful people that have dedicated their life to different causes.
One of those being David Mascall.
Dave is the founder of Light for Life, Kenya. A NGO that is dedicated to installing
Lion Lights.
Human-Predator Conflicts are almost a daily event in the Maasai Mara. The Maasai People are confronted with losses of Livestock to predators invading their bomas at night. Not only Lions, but also Hyenas or even Leopards sometimes try to get access to the kraaled Cows, Goats and Sheeps looking for a meal esp. in the lean seasons during and after the short and long rains. Light for Life is a NGO running projects to make bomas Predator-Proof. Dave’s Lion Lights are a solar-panel sourced predator deterrent system using flashing lights to keep the potential invaders at distance. The feedback we got has been remarkable. Not a single boma has been attacked by predators after the Lion Lights have been installed! Everybody we have continued to stay in contact with post-installation has been extremely happy with the system. Each light system costs $350USD per boma and that cost covers everything including fuel and accommodation. No overhead costs, but fast and hands on support for those Maasai People suffering losses from Livestock Predation. They make a real difference! I am raising funds to continue to help install these lights into bomas. I’ve set the goal for two lights. I’m hoping we can do even more.
