Miracle Man, Walker Hicks
Donation protected
Walker suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury resulting in a two month stay in the hospital. He now has Cerebral Palsy and has to receive therapy 3-4 times a week.
With the damage to his brain, the Hicks family will have lifelong expenses in order to give Walker the care that he needs. This is created to help them however we can.
Since the accident, Walker's mom, Lindsey, has had to quit her job and lose her income to stay at home with Walker to be his primary caretaker and take him to multiple therapy sessions a week.
They have already paid over $20,000 in medical expenses, with the number climbing weekly.
Their future medical expenses will include EEGs, CT scans, specialist checkups with rehab, neurology, ophthamology, etc.
Walker will need to be on certain medications for the foreseeable future: Keppra (for seizures) and Gabba (for nerve pain/muscle tone).
He will continually need orders for new medical equipment as he grows. A few examples of this include: a walker, AFO (boot for his left foot), an arm immobilizer (keeps it straight), hand braces, etc.
Walker will need potential corrective eyewear in the future.
Out of pocket, therapy currently costs $516 and that is not feasible 3-4 times a week. However, this is prime time for him to get services while his brain is still developing, so they want to act with haste.
Talking with case workers and social workers, there is no program fit for Walker based on his "lack of dependence" (no feeding tube, etc). The Hicks are still looking into all options, and are still applying Walker to programs, but unsure any will accept him. He is currently on the Medicaid Waiver Waitlist, and is receiving services through ECI.
Please continue to pray for them!
