I hope this finds you well.
As much as we hate to have to take this route, we have been left no other choice. My wife and I personally own an Anytime Fitness gym in Odessa, Florida. Due to the recent Covid-19 mandatory shut down of all gyms on March 20th, our gym has had no income to pay for rent, utilities, supplies etc. As of May 18th, we were able to open up, but it will take some time to start generating membership dues again, especially with the many freezes/cancellations that have occurred since this pandemic. This month we have received letters from the landlord to pay the outstanding balance for April and May's rent, even though we have no way to pay. Soon June will be included, totaling over $28,000. It's been a very difficult time for our family wondering when and even if we will receive any government assistance, like the PPP loan, to help cover some of the costs related to the gym. Unfortunately, the PPP loan will only allow 25% to go to costs such as rent, utilities, etc. and that's if there are enough funds by the time they get to our application. As most of you know, the first round ran out within days and as of yet, we have not heard back from the SBA.
We decided not to bill for the months during the government mandated closure, unlike what other big gyms we're doing, which continued to charge members. We thought it wasn't the right thing to do under these uncertain times, being that everyone has been affected in someway. The gyms that were charging, now have pending lawsuits against them.
We have been here for 5 years now and are a staple of this community. We feel completely exhausted knowing this could be the end. It's sad to say, but if we are not able to rectify this situation soon, we will have no choice but to close our doors and be a statistic of this pandemic.
With that being said, we are asking family, friends, our community and our members for help if you are able to donate . Every donation, no matter big or small, will be greatly appreciated. The Relief Fund will all go towards the arrears for the gym to help keep us in our community.
