National Network of Abortion Funds Fundraiser

WHAT WE’RE DOING

Hell hath no fury like a bunch of comedians pissed off about the state of abortion rights. So, we’re producing a comedy special and fundraiser to support the National Network of Abortion Funds.

We’ve asked some of the funniest people we know (as well as some of the funniest people we admire) to create live comedy or video shorts for our show on September 9th. They have to create everything within the time it often takes a person to detect they’re pregnant, to the last day they can get an abortion in many states (if the day Roe was overturned was the day of conception).

ALL proceeds from both the show tickets and this GoFundMe will be donated to the National Network of Abortion Funds. Every dollar donated will be matched by a donor, doubling the total amount given to advancing abortion access.

OUR GOALS?

Normalize abortion by empowering ALL people to talk about abortion. Because here’s the thing, everyone loves someone who has had an abortion. #facts

Inspired by Shout Your Abortion, we see comedy as a way to foster collective participation in abortion rights regardless of legality. We also believe in the mission of the National Network of Abortion Funds:

“We envision a world where every reproductive decision, including abortion, takes place in thriving communities that are safe, peaceful, and affordable. We envision a world where all people have the power and resources to care for and affirm their bodies, identities, and health for themselves and their families—in all areas of their lives. As we shift the conversation about abortion, it will become a real option, accessible without shame or judgment.”

We currently have donor matching up to $20k (so $40k total!) and expect to increase donation matching if we surpass our funding goals!

SO WHAT IS THE SHOW?:

We’re challenging sketch groups and comedy creators to make videos for a live screening on September 9 at the Dynasty Typewriter in LA. An online release will follow the live show!

But this isn’t a bunch of PSA. It’s using comedy to destigmatize talking about abortion in this new, fucked up reality. Because it’s so fucked, it’s funny. The show is the kickoff for our fundraising push and we’re excited to come together as comedians, comedy fans, and supporters of abortion rights!
