Apartment Fire Happened on our Proposal Day

Hello everyone. Happy New Year! On Friday 1/5/24, my fiancé David, popped the question at 8:15am. I cried and automatically said, yes! After the excitement, we then did what we do every Friday morning, which was go grocery shopping at our local Stop & Shop, in Brooklyn, NY. At 9:07am, I received a phone call from our building super, telling me that there is smoke coming from inside our apartment. The FDNY broke our front entrance door, in, and broke every window in our apartment. We rent a 2 bedroom apartment, on Bay Parkway, in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, NY. The fire started in our main bedroom and spread throughout the entire apartment. When we arrived to the scene, there was broken glass, shattered all over the floors and ash and ruble everywhere. We literally lost everything we own. All of our clothes, shoes, valuables and sentimental items were are lost in the fire. We were able to salvage a few bags of food from the refrigerator and pantry. The Red Cross came and offered us 48 hours in a hotel and a $600, pre-paid, debit card. We are currently staying with family in East Harlem.
