Apollo's burns recovery journey
Donation protected
On Sunday 23 March 2025, two year old Apollo ran into the remains of a campfire, lost his balance and put his hands down to save his fall as toddlers do. He wasn't unsupervised, he was just too quick. As a result of that fall, Apollo sustained severe burns to both hands and his feet, and he was airlifted that day from Warwick Hospital to the Burns Unit at the Royal Brisbane Hospital. His burns are so severe, especially those to the palms of his hands and his fingers, that he will need more surgery. He has a long road to recovery ahead and it is not known when he will be able to return home, or whether he will be able to go back to normal life going to childcare while his mum and dad are at work. His mum Rachel (my niece) has already had to leave Apollo in hospital in Brisbane with his dad Chris, and has taken their six month old baby Leonardo home to Warwick so she can go back to work. This is absolutely heart-wrenching for Rachel and their little family but it is currently the only option available to them. Apollo doesn't understand why mummy can't stay with him or why she has to go to work. Who knows what medical bills lie ahead, they still have rent to pay and food and fuel to buy, and Rach has only recently gone back to work after maternity leave and doesn't have any leave available to use. I have started this fundraiser to help Rach and Chris to give Apollo and their little family the best support they can by being able to be together in hospital in Brisbane as long as Apollo needs to stay there. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
