Our wonderful, kindhearted and selfless mother was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer this past August. She went in with stomach pain and the doctors told her she had gallstones only to later find out, it was actually a giant tumor. To make matters worse, they told us she is in the final stage of this cancer. My siblings and I have been scrambling to organize all of her upcoming healthcare needs and appointments. She will need to undergo chemotherapy for a few months followed by surgery. As luck would have it, she missed her enrollment window last year for health insurance through her employer, and that leaves us to fend for ourselves financially to cover her expenses. Our mother is deteriorating before our eyes. In the past 3 months, she’s already lost 30-40 pounds due to lack of appetite and not being able to keep down her food. Ovarian cancer is known for causing bloating and abdominal pain. As if it couldn’t get any worse, it also causes fluid to build up in the stomach: ascites. Ascites is a buildup of fluid containing cancer cells in the peritoneum, the space between the membranes that line the abdomen and pelvis. Because of this, she often gets her stomach drained with a tube in her abdomen. The pain is sometimes so severe that she has to stay in bed all day and take strong painkillers to reduce some of that discomfort. For those who know my mother, you how caring and considerate she is towards those in need, always helping when asked. Now, she is the one in need of help. We appreciate each and every one of you who are able to donate to our mothers cause.
My family and I would greatly appreciate any assistance you could provide and understand if you are not able to. Prayers and well wishes are also needed during this difficult time. Thank you.
