HELP us save our Museum in downtown Applegate, Oregon
The Applegate Valley Historical Society began in 1989 with Myrtle Krouse as the organizer. We acquired an 18-foot by 18-foot hand-hewn log building, which had been a general store here in Applegate, about 1 ½ miles down N. Applegate Road, in the late 1860s.
In 1993, Roar & Mary Kjaer and John Pernoll, gave us some property in Applegate to permanently secure the museum. With the help of local clubs and the community, we were able to open in May of 1997.
Our founder and benefactor, Myrtle Krouse, had the first display of her personal antique artifacts and written material.
Since that time, we have faced many challenges. There was a time when we were low on volunteers and funds. But we remained a historical society according to the state and local requirements and members kept paying their dues every year.
Then Covid-19 hit and changed our course. In 2019 we were faced with a possible lawsuit by the adjoining neighbor who wanted the land. They thought that AVHS was no longer active because we were not open to the public as often. We tried to work the problem out, explaining that we were still in existence, but to no avail. Then in 2023, we received a complaint and summons. Now we are faced with A lawsuit.
We are seeking donations to help our cause.
The amount at this time is $10,000.00.
This would help cover some of our court fees as well as our lawyer. You can check out our Web page at: applegatehistoricalsociety.org
We welcome any and all new members. There is information about membership on the Web site.
Thank you for any and all support you can give. Every little bit helps.

Thank you for your consideration

Our NEW court date is January 28 & 29, 2025.
We have held several fund-raisers but are still in the need to pay our attorney and those that loaned us money to fight this battle.

Any amount of donation is helpful.
