Appreciation for Kelly Melton and His Family

Donation protected
Kelly Melton has been a pillar of the Sumter community for over 20 years. He is a teacher to many of us, a coworker to some, a friend to all.
Both Kelly and his wife, Jodi, have dedicated countless long, long days to ensure the success of the students. They pour love, energy, and fun into everything they do, and for much of it, they are under-compensated or not compensated at all.

Melton has changed so many lives for the better. He has worked tirelessly to keep art alive in our community, to give the students at SHS (and REACH!) real, hands-on, valuable creative experience. To many of us, working with him instilled in us an inclusive, collaborative, hard-working attitude. He taught us how to cultivate positivity, live up to our most important responsibilities (loving, creating, and having fun doing it!), and carry a sense of belonging. He showed us that we are beautiful and unique and special, and he gave us the skills to see that in others. He taught us how to how to take the hand of the person next to us, no matter how different they are, and use those differences to create beautiful things. His productions have given our community tears, laughter, hope, and ease, and we, as his students, have life-long friends and memories that we will never, ever forget.

Most of all, beyond the classroom, Mr. Melton is a devoted, loving father and husband. His family is going through some tough times. And in tough times, my friends, it is vital that we do our best to reciprocate what was given to us.

Personally, Kelly Melton taught me how to live joyfully. When so many people around me were falling into despair and negativity, (even sometimes when I was!) I always remembered how playful Mr. Melton taught us to be--how to take risks, be spontaneous, and have FUN with this life! He gave us the gift of freedom. He gave us the gift of wonder.
His example and his classes have absolutely altered the course of my life. He gave me permission to be--unapologetically. I know many of you--if not all of you--feel the same way.

As many of you know, the Melton family has been incurring many emergency expenses lately. As you can imagine, it's probably stressing them out to the max, and when I heard about this, I thought perhaps we could all help relieve their stress. Please consider supporting this family as a simple "Thank you" for the way they have supported us through our lives.  We wouldn't be the people we are today without them.

LET'S MAKE THE MELTON FAMILY SMILE!
