Help Carlos Capote and His Family

Donation protected
As many of you know, Carlos has spent the last year in and out of the hospital and inpatient rehab dealing with recurrent severe infections while also receiving dialysis treatments for his failing kidneys. His family has been struggling with healthcare expenses and limited income. So many of his friends have been asking how they can help. A donation will at least ease the financial challenge while Carlos fights to regain enough strength to be able to go back home and be with his wife, Terri and two daughters, Josie and Carmen, and continue physical therapy and dialysis at home.

Carlos founded The Breeze Kings in 1997. I joined three months later on guitar, and we have been musical partners for over 20 years. We were voted Atlanta's Best Local Blues Band for 10 of those years by the readers of Creative Loafing magazine. Carlos led the band with his soulful vocals, virtuoso harmonica playing, and charismatic stage presence on stages big and small here in the Atlanta area, across the U.S. and several tours in France. We recorded four CDs over the years.

Here’s a brief summary of Carlos’s medical situation:

Carlos was born with a genetic form of the kidney condition, focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS). He had markers for it all his life, but it advanced quickly about 15 years ago. In 2012, he was gifted with a beautiful healthy kidney which returned him to a beautiful healthy life. About a year and a half ago, the FSGS began to rear its ugly head again. On May 15th 2020, he checked into Piedmont Hospital feeling unwell. The expectation was that he would get a dialysis port installed and return home in a few days to resume dialysis treatments at home. Unfortunately the situation was complicated by a difficult and tenacious infection that required extensive treatment. He returned to daily dialysis *while* dealing with an unfortunate series of events that led to extended hospitalizations and the need for physical therapy to help him walk again. He was recently transferred from an inpatient rehab facility back to the hospital again. The goal is to get him well enough to go back to the rehab facility where he can continue to rebuild enough strength to be able to leave the facility and resume dialysis and physical therapy at home.

This past year has been extremely hard for Carlos’s family. Because of Covid, they were unable to visit until recently. Please pray for him to be reunited with Terri, Josie, and Carmen. Donations will help with the financial strain of medical bills and the loss of Carlos’s music income. Even if you cannot donate yourself, sharing this page on facebook and other social media will help. Thanks so much to everyone for all of your prayers and well wishes!
