Help us hit our mark for ARC IN THE PARK!

Individuals with developmental disabilities have been discriminated against for many years. The Americans with Disabilities Act was introduced in 1990 after many decades of fighting to include laws against discrimination. However, people may still hold biases toward individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities. This makes it more difficult for these individuals to find employment, or to have ease of access to amenities and other public and private services. The Arc of Denton County is a non-profit in North Texas, dedicated to empowering individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities to exercise the same rights and freedoms as their fellow citizens by providing support and spreading public awareness.

One of the Arc of Denton County’s biggest events of the year is Arc in the Park.

This event provides people with disabilities, who might not otherwise get such opportunities, an opportunity to play games, have fun, engage in arts and crafts, and socialize in a safe and inclusive environment.

The number of families in need of such events like this continues to grow in all of our communities. Fortunately, people are seeing what a meaningful role this provides to families, individuals, and the community! Unfortunately, as interest grows, so do expenses. Last year 80-100 people were expected to attend, in excess of 200 people attended.

This is where we need your help. In addition to food, snacks and refreshments that are needed, we want to help fulfill the need for art supplies and tee-shirts for participants to wear while enjoying participation in the activities provided. ARC in the Park will not only give people with disabilities an opportunity to participate in fun activities, but it gives them a chance to impress with their artwork, receive positive reinforcement, feel a sense of achievement and pride, and impress upon their peers the abilities they themselves have.

All contributions from this campaign will go toward funding this purposeful and inspiring community event. Thank you for supporting our community and our friends at ARC of Denton County!
