Hello everyone,
Our hearts are heavy as we share the news that Archie has been diagnosed with nasal cancer - Squamous Cell Carcinoma.
In the 8 years we've owned Archie since rescuing him off Gumtree at the age of 3, it's just been the most wonderful time. Archie (and Mindy) enlighten so many of our lives with the many (thousands) of photos and videos I have shared on their global fan pages, as well as my own socials. Time has gone so quick and the duo both turn 11 this year.
As of late, I have not posted as much on their fan pages as a lot has been happening in life. But they are still the same hilarious, loveable, spoilt furballs, albiet just a little older in the passage of time.
Recently, we noticed Archie sniffling over the course of a few months but as it was hay fever season, I shrugged it off as an allergy. Over the weeks his black nose started to change colour drastically and became very dry, almost like a concrete texture. Then the blood nose started occurring if he bumped his nose, and my heart dropped. We just knew it wasn't good. We booked him in for exploratory surgery and a biopsy taken that day confirmed my fear....nasal sarcinoma in his beautiful nose.
After a consult with a specialist surgeon, although not 100% they are fairly confident if they were to remove part of his nose (nasal resection), providing there are no cancer cells in the margins, it should remove the cancer and give Archie a second chance at a happy, healthy life. The other option is commence ongoing cancer treatment with oral medication to provide quality of life and slow the cancer as much as we can. However, the costs for the surgery and treatment is estimated to be $6000+.
I've never set up a go fund me in my life and usually I am the one in a position where I readily give to others in a similar situation. It's funny how life can change so suddenly sometimes, and I now find myself in the other end of the stick, reaching out for little bits of help. The treatment options provided by the specialist are very costly, and it has come at a horrible time financially, however we refuse to give up on our wonderful boy.
As hard as it is to reach out for help, it is also necessary. Any amount you can contribute will make a difference and we're very grateful. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this campaign with others will be just as helpful and we truly appreciate your care and kindness.
