Hi! This is Matthew Eklund! I am a visionary, musician, yoga teacher, writer, business owner and dreamer!
It is been my dream for some time now to build a garden sanctuary center, where we can host retreats and workshops relating to consciousness expansion and sustainable living!
This March I have purchased 4 acres of coffee land and old growth avocado trees on the mountain of San Marcos, in the mystical Lake Atitlan vortex in Guatemala. We have named the land Arco Isis Sanctuary!
"Arco Isis" is a play on the words "Arco Iris", the spanish term for Rainbow. Isis is a reference to the ancient Egyptian goddess, the archetype of the divine mother, who is responsible for the rain that nourishes the soil, a symbol of fertility, protection and transformation.
This month we have begun planting at Arco Isis, and by the end of this month will have planted nearly 150 fruiting trees and vines. My vision is a garden sanctuary, endless food and flowers, butterflies, birds, and a quiet retreat away from the hustle and bustle of san marcos.
We have plans to build a temple for retreats and workshops, casitas and a kitchen space, in addition to Earthworks, and various ecological planning.
I am running low on funds, having given the initial birth of the land, planting and fencing the land, and have decided to spread the word and also offer awesome prizes for helping us get off the ground with some projects that are ahead!
In addition, I pledge to donate 20% of the funds we raise to non profit social projects for local indigenous people here in San marcos. We are currently working with Fincas Buenas, an organization that helps rebuild houses for low income people, as well as participating in a rainbow of other ways for the people here in San Marcos!
We are currently employing 6 local Guatemalans for our building projects, and hoping to continue to have opportunities to employ people here, and help families by paying above average wages!
Our current projects that we can use help with include:
Building the first casa and bodega ($5000). This casa will help us have a presence on the land and provide security, and safe storage for materials
Building a solar power setup- estimated ($2500).
Building the infrastructure, kitchen, composting toilets, pathways, gate, supplies ($7000).
Prizes: we are offering various prizes, from ceremonial cacao and Rainbow Cloud Kombucha, to all inclusive 10 day Joy of Transformation retreats in February 2018! I will post a full list of offers and prizes soon!
