Argonne African American ERG Scholarships
Donation protected
You can’t help but smile when seeing a student entering a university and taking their first career steps. If there is any better feeling, it is being a direct contributor to their STEM path.
Sadly, there are fewer of these types of stories for Black students who dream of science careers. The numbers of Blacks pursuing undergraduate degrees in engineering, the physical sciences, and mathematics is steadily declining.
As an employee of Argonne National Laboratory, one our nation’s largest science institutions, I can attest to the fact that Blacks represent less than 1% of our research staff. Without adequate financial support for STEM-interested students, what hope is there to increase the numbers of Blacks in these careers?
That is why we are asking for your support. Will you help the Argonne African American Employee Resource Group (AAA-ERG) by contributing to our group’s scholarship fund?
Each year the AAA-ERG awards two local-area students with scholarships so they can attend the college or university of their choice. With your help, we can impact even more students.
This year we have set an ambitious goal to raise $10,000 which will allow us to provide four scholarships to local area students.
Most of our contributors donate at the $250 and $500 levels. For those able to sponsor a student at the $2500 level, AAA-ERG will present the scholarship to one student in 2021 with the scholarship named after the donor.
Giving has never been easier, you can help a young student start their career path on strong footing.
Unfortunately this year COVID-19 has created new challenges that will require us to adjust our fundraising approach. This is why we will be setting up a GoFundMe campaign where lab employees can directly contribute to our scholarship program. More information will be provided in the upcoming days.
Thank you for your support helping us work towards meeting the Laboratory’s diversity and inclusion goals.
