Ariel Mayer - Complete Loss in Condo Fire!

Donation protected
Hello Everyone, my name is Stacia Gainey, and I'm reaching out to everyone on behalf of my sister, Ariel Mayer, as she is too proud to ask for help in her time of need. This past Friday, while Ariel was on a class trip with her school, as she is a Preschool Teacher at the Capuano School in Somerville, MA, she received a call from our parents that a Fire had broken out in her Condo Building. At that point, little was known as to the magnitude of the fire, the well-being of our parents (who were staying with my sister while our dad is undergoing chemo and immunotherapy treatment at Dana Farber), or the specifics as to what was exactly happening. My sister and I both rushed to the hospital to meet our parents, who were transported by ambulance. It was there we were provided all the necessary details as to what had occurred. Our father, who had just completed his chemotherapy that morning, heard a loud bang (what turned out to be an explosion). He went to check on our mother, who suffers from Multiple Sclerosis, but when the sound wasn't associated with her, that is when he heard screaming for help, coming from the next Condo over (direct neighbor to my sister). My father went into the hallway, where he saw black smoke coming out of the neighbor's home. He ran down, following the cries for help, opened the door and was immediately surrounded by black smoke and flames. He proceeded to run in, grab the neighbor, pull him out, and then returned to my sister's home, to grab my mother and get themselves out. By the time he returned to my sister's Condo, mere moments after pulling the neighbor out, my sister's home was full of thick black smoke and the flames had begun to pour in from the neighbor's home. Our parents managed to get out, along with the other tenants in the building. They suffered from smoke inhalation, our father worse than our mother, as he was in direct contact with the smoke and flames (the hair on his head had been burnt as well) but luckily they have been discharged and are recouping. Sadly, the same cannot be said about my sister's Condo and all of her possessions. When she and I were able to return to the building, escorted in by the Fire Department, to gather emergency necessities (specifically our father and mother's medication), that is when we saw the actual destruction. Everything was either destroyed by fire, smoke or water damage. Just so you understand the person my sister is, if you haven't had the privilege of meeting her directly, she moved into this Condo exactly one year ago (June 1, 2022). She did this so my parents could have a handicap-accessible location to stay at while our father is battling cancer, which was also diagnosed one year ago in April. She moved from a location that she loved, right across from the beach, so my parents could stay with her, getting the care my father needed, and her being able to act as their primary form of support. Although this is what family does for each other, she has done this with grace and compassion, and now is in need of our help and support. When she relocated, her renter's insurance was not renewed for some reason, by the carrier, therefore, everything that has to be replaced, which is everything, is going to have to come out of pocket, all while attempting to find a new home (The Condo has been deemed condemned). Any support that can be offered will be beyond appreciated by myself, and more importantly by her. She is the most caring person you would ever meet and would go to the end of the world to help those that are in need. Now I am asking everyone who can, please do the same for her. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts! Stacia
