Arlene Duff Together we can make a difference

Please partner with us to raise support for Arlene Duff, a proud member of the Dog Mushing Community as well as a Correctional Program Director for the Department of Corrections Substance Abuse program at the Challenge Incarceration Program in Togo, MN.

As 2023 came to a close, Arlene was faced with some difficult challenges. She started to experience a significant change in her energy level, frequent fatigue, and shortness of breath. When she found herself feeling dizzy and on the brink of passing out while trying to hook up her dog team, she assumed it was perhaps due to aging or being overworked. She completed a recommended stress test; unfortunately, she learned that her aortic valve stenosis progressed from moderate to severe in less than 6 months. Additionally, she was told her right coronary was blocked 100%. The cardiologist shared when they see those type of results, the person has already suffered a massive heart attack and passed away.

With limited time to digest feelings associated with this life-threatening condition, Arlene quickly moved into action as she worked out numerous details related to the temporary placement of each of her beloved dogs, she tied up loose ends at work and tried to emotionally center herself and prepare for surgery. In true Arlene fashion and with a humble spirit, she expressed profound gratitude for the outpouring of support.

Arlene has had numerous challenges throughout her life. She identifies the “take aways” and uses her experience, strength and hope to give back. With your support, she will continue to thrive and to touch the lives of countless others.

Arlene’s recovery time is expected to be about three months. She has exhausted her sick leave and vacation due to medical appointments. She will be in a “no pay” status almost immediately. Your financial support will allow her to keep her insurance active and to cover other expenses during this time. Many of you have offered so much already; we deeply thank you for all contributions, willingness, prayers and for standing by her side.
