BUILDING CONNECTIONS IN THE ARMIDALE COMMUNITY

My name is John Pease, president of the Armidale Men’s Shed. I seek your support regarding an unfortunate position in which we find ourselves.

Our Men’s Shed has been struggling to meet its financial commitments due to being locked into a very costly lease, which ends in December 2025. As a result, we will soon run out of money and will be forced to close, which would leave the Armidale community without a valuable asset.

We are actively working on relocating the Armidale Men’s Shed to a more financially viable location. In the meantime, we need to cover the rent until the end of the lease to avoid having to close the doors - an outcome we are working very hard to avoid.

We are a community-based, non-profit, that is staffed solely by volunteers who are committed to improving the health and wellbeing of our members by providing a productive and welcoming environment, and a haven for men and women to meet, talk, learn new skills and foster new friendships. We train and mentor members, provide build and repair woodworking services for the community, and raise awareness of men's health issues in the local area.

We have 70+ memberships, with many working hard to generate the income required to cover the rent and to handle the day-to-day requirements of the shed. Currently, our limited, ever-diminishing income stream is not enough to cover the rent increases and other rising costs associated with keeping the Men’s Shed operational.

In order for us to keep this essential service open and available to our members and our community, we are asking for support from our community.

The Armidale Men’s Shed has been serving the Armidale community for the past 18 years, closing our doors would be a genuine loss to the community and members who utilise our facilities.
