Fundraising for Refugees & Community Volunteers
Thank you to everyone who has donated, your generous support will help provide educational materials for language lessons.
I've increased the goal after seeing the amazing amount of support with additional funds going towards;
+ Extra school materials such as their own school bags and fully equipped pencil cases.
+ Urgently needed clothing & hygiene items for newborns and toddlers who live inside the camp.
+ Donating to the NGO Art Bridge who provide emergency support to the displaced Roma Community. This will include shoes, clothes, food distribution and educational resources.
Over 6000 Refugees Remain in the New Camp on Lesvos...
The conditions across the Aegean islands for refugees and asylum seekers are horrific and inhumane, with inadequate shelters and a severe lack of accessibility to various services. People can remain in the camp for months, with no clear answer on their asylum application in a state of limbo. There is also a lack of accessibility of structured education for children who account for almost half the population of the camp. When matched with the under resourced and slow processing of asylum applications, this leads to a sense of hopelessness and dismay.
Since I've been on the island...
I've been working alongisde visiting and community volunteers to support the distribution of essential clothing and hygiene items to vulnerable residents in the camp. Our community volunteers include a group of dedicated and compassionate individuals from a diverse range of backgrounds, and with your support I'm hoping to continue providing language lessons to help them in their journey for a new life in Europe.
Your support will enable...
The purchasing of educational materials that I'll be using in weekly educational lessons to support our team in learning English, German and other languages! Such supplies will include notebooks, pens, folders, school bags, reading and writing books, and classroom furniture.
If we raise more than the goal, I'm going to contribute further donations to other NGO's who work across Greece supporting educational needs.
If you'd like to get involved...
There are many ways that you can help support refugees and asylum seekers in Greece, through fundraising, advocating or volunteering! I support the Europe Must Act movement, which you can find out more by visiting (Home | Europe Must Act). If you're interested in volunteering, I encourage you to head over to the Info Point for Lesvos Volunteers Facebook Group to find more information!
