Aid My Research: Artist Residency in Crete
Donation protected
Dear Friends and Family,
This past December (2018), I had the opportunity to present an excerpt of my developing work Head Lights at CPR (Center for Performance Research, Brooklyn, NY). Head Lights is inspired by Audre Lorde’s essay “The Uses of the Erotic” and the archetypal energies of the four queens of tarot.
Sharing the new material for the first time was informative and encouraging. There is an alchemical quality to the work I am devising and it is exciting to see that it is activating not just through performance but with each rehearsal and embodied experiment. To develop the work further I have been diligently applying to residency opportunities.
With excitement and purpose, I share my acceptance as an artist-in-residence to The Mudhouse Residency, located in the mountain village of Agios Ioannis, Cyprus (June 28th -July 12th). The Mudhouse Residency offers a beautifully timed opportunity to move back into Head Lights embodied research (after Jan - April extensive tour managing schedule).
Needing space and time to move beyond the initial iteration, without pressure of prescribed outcome or production deliverables, I will put myself further in the embodied research (as opposed to outside eye / director role) through solo movement research experiments. As part of my research at Mudhouse, I will make screen dance portraits of each queen. Merging post-modern dance and layered site specific sound scores - these dance-for-camera portraits will examine themes of future, female, abstraction and symbolism. I am moved to see what can happen with filming portrait studies of the queen characters as a further expansion of this developing work.
In order to further my research at Mudhouse, I need your help.
The cost of the program is $2,386. The fee for the residency includes meals, lodging and studio accommodations in Agios Ioannis and inclusion in the Mudhouse Residency community for the entire two week duration of the residency period. I will have 24 hour access to a dance studio - all to myself. The ability to work whatever hours I wish is especially thrilling.
Residency fee - $2386
Round trip flight to Athens - $1200
Transportation to and from Agios Ioannis - $250
TOTAL - $3836
I ask for your support in generating half of the total amount. I will match with my own funds the needed remainder. If you are able to support my research by contributing toward this residency participation, I will reciprocate by creating a mini screen dance portrait just for you.

The Mudhouse Residency is designed to provide a cultural immersion: living, working and dining in the mountain village of Agios Ioannis. The residency is inclusive to a number of artistic disciplines, with the facilities to accommodate studio artists, photographers, writers, choreographers and composers.
