Arusha Giraffe Centre

Hello, we are Nathalie and Nicholas and we have been living in the Maasai Steppe in Northern Tanzania for the last 14 years. Using simple grazing and landscape rehydration techniques we have regenerated our farm.

Our belief is that we all need to Regenerate Our Landscapes.

How we will do this is through education; of children, adults and tourists.

What we are going to do is build a wildlife education centre, called the Arusha Giraffe Centre, where we will invite all the children in Northern Tanzania so that they can learn about the Giraffes and more importantly why they are under threat. We also simply introduce basic land use concepts that can reverse the issues.

Tourists will be charged so that we can provide transport and meals to the school children when required.

Giraffe are sadly iconic of the issue facing all wildlife: loss of habitat and poaching. In the Giraffes case their population has been reduced to around 30,000 animals, a reduction of 30% in the last few decades.

We need to relocate a tower of vulnerable Giraffe from an area that is being badly poached and they will be the stars of the centre. We have rewilded our farm, (where in living memory Giraffe once roamed) erected a game fence around the whole place and started building the visitor centre.

The Giraffe will be a free living wild population on the farm but we will work to habituate them to people to provide an amazing experience for visitors.

We need your help to complete the Giraffe Centre and pay for the actual relocation of the animals to the AGC.
