Stand with Arvin Through the Fight!

Hello!

My name is Lyna Nguyen. I am the proud auntie of Baby Arvin Nguyen. This campaign was created in hope to fundraise Baby Arvin's processing fee to preserve his umbilical cord in event of cancer relapse, as well as medical expenses this year.

Some facts about Arvin :)

Baby Arvin was born on April 6th, 2015 into a loving family with mom, dad and an older, energetic brother named Tyson who couldn’t wait to play with Arvin. Arvin has always been very cheerful, always with the biggest smile on his face, even after he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) on June 10th, at only 2 months and 4 days old. The next day he was put under anesthesia for a broviac line placed in one of the veins that enters his heart for medications, fluids, blood products, and to take blood samples for testing. Due to Arvin's conditions, he cannot play with Tyson or participate in any regular activity healthy babies do, like taking a bath. Diagnosed with hip displasia besides ALL, Arvin has slower physical developments (ie. crawling, and standing). But Arvin has learned how to clap his hands which he does A LOT :) , give high fives, etc.  Despite the regular spinal tap chemotherapy and anesthesia, countless blood and platelets transfusion, and most recently removal of the broviac line and insertion of a mediport to his right chest, Arvin continues to fight cancer with very positive and cheerful attitude. It still amazes me every time I look at Arvin, what a fighter in such a little body

Our Little Hero!

Early 2016, the doctors concluded that Arvin is allergic to cow milk and prescribed Nutramigen, which is more than twice the price of regular formula. Arvin also needs weekly occupational therapy visit to assist him in eating and mobility which is hindered by his constant stay at the hospital. On March 11th, during the 4 hour long surgeries for the ports, doctors also gave Arvin a feeding tube due to his nutrition deficiency, underweight, and inability to retain anything in his stomach. But that doesn’t seem to prevent Arvin from giving us the biggest smiles that brighten up our days even in the darkest times.

Since Arvin’s cancer diagnosis, his mom, my sister Nini Nguyen, had to resign her job due to Arvin’s frequent hospital visits and inpatient stays. Supporting a family of 4 under one income had been difficult but they had managed well so far. However, as one would expect, every expense becomes a large burden on top of Arvin’s medical expenses and Nini’s family has been struggling financially more and more.

Cancer Relapse

Despite the high initial remission rate, however, approximately 20% of children diagnosed with ALL will ultimately relapse, often with disease that is highly refractory to further therapy. Umbilical cord blood has an important and growing role in the treatment of leukemia; Banking Arvin’s umbilical cord would improve Arvin’s survival rate in event of ALL relapse. However, family cord blood banks charge a first-year processing and tracking fee, which Arvin’s family is unable to provide at once, plus annual storage costs. So I hope this campaign would help us raise enough money to help Arvin bank his umbilical cord as well as his medical expenses this year, while our family fight through the financial struggles.

Any help would mean the world to Arvin and our family. Even if you can’t help Arvin financially, please keep Arvin and our family in prayers so that we can faithfully fight through this battle.

Ps. Arvin is turning one and Tyson will turn three in April (YAY!!!!). We are praying that Arvin will get to stay home to celebrate his birthday. Please keep Arvin in your prayer!!!

God bless!
