I am Ten Backe, a writer and trans historian based in Aurora, Colorado. I am working alongside the Barry Kay Archive to rerelease the 1976 photo essay entitled 'As A Woman.' This groundbreaking series of images, taken by artist Barry Kay in 1975-1976, encapsulates a large group of trans women living their daily lives in Australia.

The book was only printed once, almost 50 years ago, and is not easily accessible to the general public. The current plan is for me to travel to the archive in the Netherlands, scan all of the original photographs, compile my research for the written section, and travel back home. Once the initial work is done, we can start moving forward with the release.

I believe 'As A Woman' is an essential and beautiful piece of trans history that must be preserved and available to the public. The goal of this fundraiser is to pay for all travel and supplies needed to make this happen. I am asking for your help to save this fantastic work of art from being lost to time.
