UPDATE: We made our goal and then some thanks to the generosity of this community. Amy is grateful and humbled.
If you’d like to help further, do what Amy does. Find someone hurting in the world and take care of them however you can.
Thank you for helping push back the shadow a bit.
-Martha on behalf of Amy
Our beloved friend Amy, best known to readers as A.S. King, had a stroke on February 2.
She's out of the hospital now but still has mysterious things happening in her brain that will require further neurological examination.
As you might expect, it is darned scary not knowing what is happening inside your brain. And now, on top of that, Amy has significant hospital bills.
She did let me know that she wanted to take a week or two off of work in addition to being able to pay those bills. A week or two, huh? I would love for us to give her more time to recover from this incident.
If you know Amy personally, you know that she is loving, generous, and committed to the well-being of young people. If you know her work, you know she is one of the most brilliant writers walking the planet, and that her surrealist storytelling is singular and revolutionary. If you haven't had either the pleasure of her company or her work, well, get thee to a library or a bookstore.
Every contribution is welcome. Each will remind Amy that she is surrounded by love. She is a single mom to the astoundingly wonderful Jax and the forever-missed Gracie, and I would like all of us to hold this family close and help her recover from this scary time.
Thank you for sharing whatever you can with Amy and her son.
