SYNOPSIS

SINOPSE

Teresa has a full love life until the day when, using an app that allows surfers to analyze the state of the sea in real time, she realizes that something strange is happening on the beach. The film follows, for two days, Teresa's daily life until the moment when she decides to make a decision that has been on hold for a long time.

Teresa tem uma vida amorosa plena até ao dia em que, ao utilizar uma app que permite aos surfistas analisarem o estado do mar em tempo real, se apercebe de que algo de estranho se passa na praia. O filme acompanha, durante dois dias, o quotidiano de Teresa até ao momento em que esta se decide a tomar uma decisão há muito em suspenso.

In the film La Collectionneuse (1967), by Eric Rohmer, one of the characters states at one point: “It is more difficult to be faithful to our own nature than to fight it”. In fact, the most comfortable path can be, paradoxically, the one through which the individual represses his desires. In love, for example: why can't someone, or shouldn't, love more than one person? This is the hard but courageous journey that the protagonist of The Shadows Of The Parking Lot embarks on, on a path of doubt and guilt, but also of truth and emancipation.

No filme La Collectionneuse (1967), de Eric Rohmer, um dos personagens afirma a certa altura: “É mais difícil sermos fiéis à nossa própria natureza do que a combatermos”. De facto, o caminho mais confortável pode ser, paradoxalmente, aquele através do qual o indivíduo reprime os seus desejos. No amor, por exemplo: por que razão alguém não pode, ou não deve, amar mais do que uma pessoa? Eis a travessia dura, mas corajosa, a que a protagonista de As Sombras do Parque se lança, num caminho de dúvida e culpa, mas também de verdade e emancipação.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

SOBRE O REALIZADOR

Francisco Noronha has a degree and a master's degree in Law. Since he was very young, he maintained a deep connection with Cinema, developing activity as a critic (for Público, the most important Portuguese newspaper), programmer and director. Between fiction/documentary/essay and feature and short films, he directed the films Não Consegues Criar O Mundo Duas Vezes (You Can't Create The World Twice, co-directed w/ Catarina David, 2017), O Despiste (The Skid, 2019), Reconstrução (Reconstruction, 2022) and O Triunfo de Helmut (Helmut's Triumph, 2022), which were screened in Portuguese and international film festivals and exhibitions. Currently, he is attending the Masters in Cinema at the School of Arts of the Portuguese Catholic University. The short film As Sombras do Parque is his Master's Final Project.

Francisco Noronha é licenciado e mestre em Direito. Desde muito novo que manteve uma ligação profunda com o cinema, desenvolvendo actualmente atividade como crítico (Jornal Público), programador e realizador. Entre a ficção/documentário/ensaio e a longa e curta-metragem, realizou os filmes Não Consegues Criar O Mundo Duas Vezes (2017), O Despiste (2019), Reconstrução (2022) e O Triunfo de Helmut (2022), exibidos em festivais e mostras portugueses e internacionais de cinema. Presentemente, encontra-se a frequentar o Mestrado em Cinema na Escola das Artes da Universidade Católica Portuguesa. A curta-metragem As Sombras do Parque corresponde ao seu Projecto Final de Mestrado.

CRISTINA CARVALHAL

Cristina Carvalhal is a prestigious Portuguese actress (cinema, theater, TV) and director. Graduated in Theater-Education from Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema, she started as an actress in 1987 at Teatro Aberto. Revelation Award-1989 and Female Interpretation Award-1993. "Uma Família Portuguesa" is presented in Turku, European Capital of Culture 2011 and "A Orelha de Deus" receives the Teatro Prize – Best Show 2010 – Sociedade Portuguesa de Autores. She participated in films by e.g. Manuel Mozos, Joaquim Leitão, Miguel Gomes, Luís Filipe Rocha, Margarida Gil or Solveig Nordlund. She teaches in several higher and professional schools. She's the co-founder of the theater company Escola de Mulheres (1995). Currently, she directs the theatrical structure Causas Comuns.

MARINA LEONARDO

Artist who works as a performer in theater and cinema, staging, directing and scriptwriting. Degree in Theater from the University of Évora (2014) and in Physical and Visual Theater from the Institut del Teatre de Barcelona (2014). She was one of the representatives of the École des Maîtres project, directed by Angélica Liddell (2019). She's a co-founder and artistic co-director of Colectivo Buganvílias. During her career as an actress, she worked with Teatro Nacional 21, GATO SA, Companhia João Garcia Miguel, UmColectivo, Nova Companhia, Ana Borralho and João Galante, Nuno M Cardoso, Tiago Vieira, Mónica Calle, Tânia Carvalho, Mário Primo, Cristina Carvalhal , Ana Tamen, Beatriz Batarda, Albano Jerónimo, Ana Vilela da Costa, Martim Pedroso, João Telmo. At an international level, her work with Angélica Liddell, Lionel Menard, Casa del Silencio, Juan Carlos Agudelo, Desvio Colectivo, Stéphane Lévy, Juanjo Cuesta and Maria Codinach stands out.

Artista que trabalha como intérprete em teatro e cinema, encenação, realização e guionista. Licenciada em Teatro pela Universidade de Évora (2014) e em Teatro Físico e Visual pelo Institut del Teatre de Barcelona (2014). PEDRO ROQUETTE

Pedro Roquette was born in 1989 in Porto. Graduated in the Interpretation Course at Academia Contemporânea do Espetáculo in 2009. He is a member and co-founder of the company “Os Bisturi” where he is part of the cast as an actor.

In Cinema he participated in the short films: “Dogma” (directed by Guilherme Dessa); “Os monstros só saem à noite” (by João Ferreira); “No teu ventre” (performed by João Filipe Silva); “Fragmentado” (Directed by Paulo Próspero); “A vida é hoje” and “Trilhos” (by Rui Simão Ferreira, Academia RTP).

Pedro Roquette nasceu em 1989 no Porto. Formou-se no Curso de Interpretação na Academia Contemporânea do Espectáculo em 2009. É membro e co-fundador da Companhia “Os Bisturi” onde integra o elenco como actor.

Duarte Miguel Cabral de Matos (Porto, 1980) is a Portuguese actor with appearances in the films “Já Nada Sei” (2022), The Lonely Doryman” (2022) and “Momentos Kodak” (2019). He also had appearances on television (“Rosa Fogo”, “Louco Amor”, “A Família Mata”, “Depois do Adeus” and “Portal do Tempo”). He has also done advertising work for several brands (McDonalds, Apple, Lidl Internacional, Credibom, NOS, Barbot, Euronics, Canal Hollywood).

Duarte Miguel Cabral de Matos (Porto, 1980) é um actor português com participações nos filmes “Já Nada Sei” (2022), The Lonely Doryman” (2022) e “Momentos Kodak” (2019). MIGUEL LOPES RODRIGUES

Screenwriter, director, actor and musician, he attended the Sound & Image course at the Universidade Católica (2005-2010) and the Theater - Actors Branch at the Superior School of Theater and Cinema (2016-2019). In 2011, he won the contest on RTP 2 Fá-las Curtas. In 2015, he won the FATAL with the show at Teatro Universitário do Porto, called Celeste - Uma Assombração, staged by Gonçalo Amorim. Also in 2015, he appeared in the documentary/film by João Botelho "O Cinema, Manoel de Oliveira e Eu". Between 2017 and 2018, he works with Teatro Aberto in the shows by Marta Dias "Toda a cidade ardia", about the life of writer Alice Vieira; and "Um dia uma vida" about the work of Ruy Belo. In these two years he also collaborated with Vicente Alves do Ó in the films "Al Berto" and "Quero-te Tanto". In 2019, he had a small participation in the documentary/fiction "Cláudio Torres - Arqueologia de uma vida" by RTP. He has also dedicated himself to teaching, giving theater classes to seniors and children and collaborating with small-scale shows.

Argumentista, realizador, actor e músico, frequentou a licenciatura de Som & Imagem da Universidade Católica (2005-2010) e a de Teatro - Ramo Actores da Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema (2016-2019). Em 2011 venceu o concurso da RTP 2 Fá-las Curtas. Em 2015, venceu o FATAL com o espectáculo do Teatro Universitário do Porto, chamado Celeste - Uma Assombração, encenado por Gonçalo Amorim. Também em 2015 entrou no documentário/filme de João Botelho O Cinema, Manoel de Oliveira e Eu. Entre 2017 e 2018 trabalha com o Teatro Aberto nos espectáculos de Marta Dias Toda a cidade ardia, sobre a vida da escritora Alice Vieira; e Um dia uma vida sobre a obra de Ruy Belo. Neste dois anos teve também uma colaboração com Vicente Alves do Ó nos filmes Al Berto e Quero-te Tanto. Em 2019 Teve uma pequena participação no documentário/ficção Cláudio Torres - Arqueologia de uma vida da RTP. Tem-se dedicado igualmente ao ensino, dando aulas de teatro a seniores e crianças e colaborando com espectáculos de pequena escala.

Cláudia Coimbra has a degree in Modern Languages ​​and Literature and a Master in 18th-century English Literature. Currently, she has an FCT scholarship and is developing her PhD project at FLUP. She attended courses on Film History at Alliance Française, at the Faculty of Letters and at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences at the University of Porto. She worked in the culture department of the Venice Biennale and was a programmer for the film cycles at the Anémona cultural intervention space. As an actress, she participated in the short film TOMFL- Test of Movement as a Foreign Language, by Joana Rodrigues (2010).

Claúdia Coimbra é licenciada em Línguas e Literaturas Modernas e Mestre em Literatura Inglesa do século XVIII. Actualmente, é bolseira FCT e encontra-se a desenvolver o seu projecto de doutoramento na FLUP. Frequentou cursos sobre História do Cinema na Alliance Française, na Faculdade de Letras e na Faculdade de Psicologia e Ciências da Educação da Universidade do Porto. Trabalhou no departamento de cultura da Bienal de Veneza e foi programadora dos ciclos de cinema do espaço de intervenção cultural Anémona. Como actriz participou na curta-metragem TOMFL- Test of Movement as a Foreign Language, de Joana Rodrigues (2010).

ANGELA BISMARK

Angela Bismarck, born in 1994, is a visual artist from Porto who lives in Lisbon. She specialized in Analog Photography at Escola Artistica Soares dos Reis, where she was awarded “Best Self-Portrait”, a practice in which she currently continues to explore the moody lights, bohemian neons and urban landscapes reinterpreted in the textures and tangible materiality of film. There is, in all of her work, a melancholic and retro-futurist tone typical of dystopian and expressionist universes. She was the director of photography on the short films “Nina” (2018) by Cláudia Santos, “Hibernation” (2018) by Flor Maeyens and “Alvorada” (2020) by Carolina Neves - nominated for the 2021 Sophia Awards, having also co-directed the short “Semente” (2018) with João Santana.

Angela Bismarck, nascida em 1994, é uma artista visual portuense que reside em Lisboa. Especializou-se em Fotografia Analógica na Escola Artistica Soares dos Reis, onde foi premiada com “Melhor Auto-retrato", prática em que presentemente continua a explorar as luzes taciturnas, os néons boémios e paisagens urbanas reinterpretados nas texturas e materialidade tangível da película. Existe, em todo o seu trabalho, um tom melancólico e retro-futurista típicos de universos distópicos e expressionistas. Formou-se em Cinema na Universidade Católica Porto – Escola das Artes, onde começou a traduzir arcos narrativos e emotivos no seu trabalho fotográfico. Fez a Direcção de Fotografia nas curtas “Nina” (2018) de Cláudia Santos, “Hibernation” (2018) de Flor Maeyens e “Alvorada” (2020) de Carolina Neves - nomeado para os prémios Sophia de 2021, tendo também co-realizado a curta “Semente” (2018) com João Santana.

ALEXANDRE BARBOSA

Alexandre Barbosa graduated in Digital Game Development in 2017 from Centro Universitário IESB. In 2019, he graduated from the Sound Design for Visual Media course at the Vancouver Film School, and is now in the second year of the Master of Sound Design at the Escola das Artes of Universidade Católica Portuguesa - Porto. He started his career with audio and music in 2015 with the 4-episode webseries “Se esse rua…” and joined the “Space Wizards” team in 2016, developing up to the present the Mobile Game “Mathematical”, the demo “xPorts ” and interactive websites for the "UNICEPLAC Journey”. In 2019, in Canada, he was the leader of the audio team in the game “Crystal Cannon”, in addition to editing and mixing short films such as “Blatant Rock”, “Dead Issues” and being part of the production of “The Rat” and “Time Sheds No Tears” as Boom Operator. In 2020, he participated, in London, as sound designer of the mobile game Kingdom Jump, by Poly Fruit Ltd. and post-editing and mixing projects, such as “Febre Postal” (Vasco Vasconcelos, EA student at UCP), “O Triunfo de Helmut” (Francisco Noronha, EA student at UCP), “Reconstrução” (Francisco Noronha), “Insight BP” by Brasil Paralelo and also the dubbing mix of “Heridas”, a series produced for Netflix, by Somnorte. He also worked on short films such as “Fome de Figs” and “Another Level”.

Alexandre Barbosa é formado em Desenvolvimento de Jogos Digitais em 2017 pelo Centro Universitário IESB. Em 2019, formou-se no curso de Sound Design for Visual Media na Vancouver Film School, encontrando-se actualmente no segundo ano do Mestrado de Sound Design na Escola das Artes da Universidade Católica Portuguesa - Porto. SOFIA MARTINS

Sofia Martins has a degree in Artistic Studies from the Faculty of Letters of the University of Coimbra, having also completed the 8th degree of the Conservatory in Violin. In addition to musical projects and collaborations with other musicians, she is a Violin teacher. She has been active in the areas of music, cinema and photography, namely in photography exhibitions. She is currently finishing her Master's in Photography at the Catholic University of Portugal.

Sofia Martins é licenciada em Estudos Artísticos pela Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Coimbra, tendo também completado o Conservatório em Violino. Para além de projetos musicais e colaborações com outros músicos, é professora de Violino. Tem desenvolvido actividade nas áreas da música, cinema e fotografia, nomeadamente, em exposições de fotografia. Atualmente, encontra-se a concluir o seu Projecto Final de Mestrado em Fotografia na Universidade Católica Portuguesa.
