Amazing Asa ZellaMarie

Katie and Tad Thornton welcomed their miracle, their rainbow baby, Asa ZellaMarie, on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 3:51 am. She weighed in at 4lbs 13oz and 17.5 inches of pure sass and determination. This little lady started her journey with a diagnosis of IUGR, inter uterine growth restriction, with one cord short and a mountain to climb, Asa is a force to be reckoned with.
On February 12th, after 48 hours of labor, Miss Asa entered the world with her father squealing in delight about all the features that matched him. He named each feature one by one, her blonde hair, her long legs, her tiny little bottom… and then looked at his wife and said, “she has your lips, your toes, and your nose!”
Her mama, stronger than anyone we know, cried as she reached for her precious bundle of joy.. not one time has she ever doubted her daughter’s strength or sass; Katie knows her daughter, Asa, will move mountains!
After Asa was delivered, with only a few seconds to touch her, she was whisked away in an emergency to help her breathe. She immediately suffered from pulmonary hypertension and had had oxygen right away. The next few days were filled with techniques to reverse the effects of pulmonary hypertension using therapeutic cooling, oxygen deprivation treatments, and brain and body scans. Everything was looking promising, but we needed more answers.
We received those answers today; she required immediate open-heart surgery to correct the rare heart defect causing all the issues. She was flown to Las Vegas with her parents in tow, praying for a positive and successful surgery.
To make things even more difficult for the Thornton family in their time of need, they are burdened with unexpected struggles on top of it all, and they need our help. Families from all corners of the country have come together to help this sweet family navigate these challenging times. Please, friends and family, we ask you for your prayers in our hour of need.
