Wheels for Simon

Donation protected

Meet Simon Edell - a sweet and silly 10 year old with the ability to light up a room with his laughter.  He was born with an extremely rare genetic disorder called Schizencephaly and uses a wheelchair to get around. Simon enjoys going to school, telling knock-knock jokes, bowling and chasing after his two brothers.

This is Heather (more commonly known as Simon’s mom) -  the most compassionate, caring and determined person that I know. She is a soccer mom, a builder of wheelchair ramps, a  parent volunteer and activity director for her kids. Her days are filled with school, sports, therapy appointments and MD visits. She is also a single full-time working mom.  She does everything she can to keep her family active, healthy and semi-normal, and she spends a whole lot of her time in car, a 17 year-old Toyota Camry.

My concern for Heather is that Simon is growing (almost 90 lbs now) and I see how she struggles to lift him in and out of his car seat and then load and unload his wheelchair from the trunk.  She never complains and always has a smile (that’s just who she is), but I know that it’s a struggle for her and I don’t know how she is going to manage it as he gets bigger.

This deserving family could really use a wheelchair van. Heather works so hard to take care of her family, but with a mountain of medical bills and school loans it is something that she just can’t afford right now. I am hoping to raise $38,000 which would allow her to trade in her Camry for a used wheelchair van.  Heather is such an amazing mother, who has conquered so many obstacles in life, I want to help her lessen her load, keep her son safe and her own back strong and healthy.

Please consider donating to this special family. Any amount at all would be amazing and generous and received with so much gratitude. Thank you for your help.

Graciously,

Libby Barr
