Hi, I am raising funds for Ashley Messersmith to go towards medical bills, travel expenses and to help pay bills due to loss of income. I have known Ashley since the day she was born. Her mother is one of my very best friends.
Ashley is a beautiful, young and bright 25 year old momma of 4 year old Rhett and newlywed to Michael Messersmith who is a Staff Sargent in the Army and stationed in Fort Benning, Georgia.
Ashley went in to see the doctor On October 15, 2023 for migraines only to find out she was suffering from a hemorrhagic stroke with a frontal lobe bleed. At this time the MRI results showed what was a ping pong ball size blood clot with significant swelling in her brain. This blood clot had already caused a 5mm shift in her brain resulting in very little neurological deficits which the doctors state they've never seen anything like it especially with the amount of damage in her brain. We believe God knew she would be home alone in Kansas and needed to keep her faculties to survive and care for her 3 year old son, Rhett.
Due to the swelling, surgery was not an option and Ashley was sent home. Ashley did go home in care of her mother Tyrene. As you can imagine, Ashley was given special precautions and orders of watchfullness.
Ashley did well and did her best to stay stress free. She was a champ and managed the frequent multi levels and shifts of headache pain as well as the ball of mixed emotions that are accompanied with brain damage.
However, she was again readmitted to the hospital on October 31, 2023 at which time a new brain bleed was found. Doctors once again stated this was very rare and also very concerning so the doctor ordered an angiogram. Surgery still was not an option as they would have to remove half of her frontal lobe. Once more she was sent home with very STRICT ORDERS OF NO STRESS.
Again, momma Ty watched over her and did all she could to keep her stress free. Come November 10, 2023 Ashley was back in the hospital. The epileptic surgeon stated it was time for surgery! The iron from the blood was causing concern as it could lead to seizures.
Ashley underwent a 5 hour brain surgery on November 13, 2023 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka. Surgery went well. The large clot was removed and they believe the clot disintegrated the cavernoma (cavernous blood vessel cluster).
The outside of the brain looked abnormal so the doctors did a biopsy. All biopsies were benign! Ashley now has a very large incision and drain tube in her skull. They are keeping her at the hospital probably until Thursday November 16, 2023 . It will be a slow recovery with possibilities of seizures. She will be on seizure meds and have many follow up scans. Ashley is located 2.5 hours one way from Topeka and will have to make several trips back and forth from home.
Any donations are appreciated. Your donations are appreciated.
Funds will help cover
1) Extensive medical bills not covered by their existing Tri-Care insurance
2) The many travel expenses for Ashley to get to and from the hospital for follow up care
